Go to work. Spend 8 hours in a cubicle...

...Gets real old, real fast. Although we have cubicles - where else would we put your PC? - you don’t spend a lot of time in it. Because at Sherwin-Williams:

IT is Collaborative Problem Solving

Most IT projects generate from a business problem. A problem that may be hundreds of miles away but has global impact. And requires input from various divisions and different management levels. You need to understand each of their situations and work with them to generate the optimum solution.

IT is Risk Taking

Sometimes the best business solution requires a fresh perspective and new technology. Because "we’ve always done it this way" isn’t going to cut it. The IT professional needs to be dedicated to finding and promoting new ideas using forward technology. Becoming a pacesetter who’s willing to accept challenges.

IT is Communications and Diplomacy

There will be days when you need to trouble-shoot via PC, phone or on-site. Working closely with business professionals (who depend on technology but don’t necessarily understand it) sometimes requires you to bite your lip. Especially as they change the specs on the system you’re designing.

IT is Leadership

On inter-division projects, team members are sought out from the necessary business functions to ensure appropriate representation. We pull IT professionals from Programmer/Analyst, Senior Programmer/Analyst and Lead Programmer/Analyst positions to lead each team. As a Team Leader/Project Leader, you’re charged with keeping your team on task and reporting the team’s progress. (Here’s where your interpersonal skills - like the ability to cultivate relationships - get a workout.)

IT is Continuous Learning

The exposure to other business segments, however, entices some IT employees to expand their knowledge of the company (by volunteering for diverse projects) or learn new skills through our Continuing Education program.

IT is an Opportunity for Personal Growth

With more exposure to various divisions, your business perspective changes. You may want to challenge yourself to create a new career within Sherwin-Williams. Even a future outside of IT. -- We’ll help create those opportunities, too.
